As a lasting tribute to Ian and his love of the outdoors and whitewater kayaking, a Memorial Bench, carved in Ian's memory, is permanently sited beside the Ottawa River, near where Ian worked, paddled and trained. It is located on a point of land designated by Joe Kowalski, owner of Wilderness Tours, which he named Inspiration Point. It looks out over two of Ian's favorite rapids: Buseater and Garburator.
Inspiration Point is now a memorial to the 11 kayakers who loved the Ottawa River and are no longer with us. Joe Kowalski created a Rock to express our love for them. It is a perfect balance to the Memorial Bench.
Our deepest gratitude to so many friends and family who helped make this Bench possible. Ian's Bench was designed and carved by Peter Gross of Taken for Granite in Rochester, Massachusetts. He worked from a single block of Quincy Dark granite using sketches we made as a guide. The Bench was transported to Ottawa by our friend David von Jess. We thank you all.
The Bench was Dedicated on Saturday, November 26, 2011.
